Publication and Outreach
The Forum for Digital Culture partners with the University of Chicago Library and the University of Chicago Press to disseminate research results and digital media compositions as durable and citable Web publications that are quality controlled and peer-reviewed. The Forum’s public outreach also includes on-campus lectures, conferences, and workshops.Publication of Research Data and Digital Media Compositions
The Online Publication Service of the Forum for Digital Culture works with authors to produce permanent, peer-reviewed Web publications of the digital materials they have created or compiled, including research data like photographs, maps, texts, tables, 3D models, and audio/video files, as well as artistic digital media compositions.
The Online Publication Service collaborates closely with the University of Chicago Library and the University of Chicago Press, ensuring adherence to best practices for editing, presenting, and preserving published materials. The published data is:
- Attributed to its authors, who control exactly what is published and work with the editors employed in the Online Publication Service to prepare the data for publication.
- Free and open-access for researchers and students to use for non-commercial academic purposes.
- Edited and peer-reviewed to ensure the quality and coherence of both the data and its mode of organization.
- Citable and reconfigurable as individual items of information at a high level of granularity.
- Durable over the long term with an institutional guarantee that it will remain accessible on the Web.
